On the reverse of this photograph is the notation

(Nipper) J. Carson, little drummer, then 11 years old
46th Batt. Band 1869
Taken in 1869 on common south east of viaduct

The reverse also bears the name "Richard Summers, Photographer" and is imprinted with "M. Carson, Port Hope".

A CemSearch entry states that John Carson, husband of Elizabeth Neville (1865-1933), died at his Hope Township residence on 16 Dec 1937 at the age of 81.
